I am truly blessed to be part of the amazing staff here at Powell River Christian school. Moving back to Powell River and beginning a new chapter in my life here has been a spectacular adventure. I was born right here in Powell River but have not lived here for more than 30 years. Powell River has always felt like home and I am excited to be back. I graduated from Southeastern University in Florida and continued to teach in Fort Myers for 13 years before moving here. I have taught many grade levels and many subjects over the years. When I am not at school I love to read and craft. I know that God has led me to this place for such a time as this and that he has many new adventures waiting for me in the future.

I love the opportunity I have to get to know and pray for the students. I am blessed to work with wonderful Christian teachers and staff that truly want the best God has for each and every student. When I am not at work I love spending time with God and my family and I enjoy boating and reading.

Kindergarten

My name is Jyvanie Dow. I was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta amidst a tightly-knit community of family and friends, who continue to support and encourage me today. Ever since I was a little girl, I have loved school, and have embraced each new learning challenge that comes my way. I love to play the piano, learn new languages, bake, sing, listen to music, and read lots of books!!! Since the beginning of my teaching journey, God has blessed me with countless opportunities to learn about His love; primarily through the actions of kindness that I have witnessed from the students, I have taught. I feel blessed to have the opportunity to serve as a teacher at Powell River Christian School, and I'm looking forward to meeting you and your child soon!

Grades 1-3

With the ocean the view from my window and God painted sunsets every night, I am so blessed to be able to work in Powell River. I enjoy using my Bachelor of Education and Diploma of Special Education from the University of British Columbia, and Orton-Gillingham training to reach students of all abilities. When not at school, I love taking photos of the beautiful world God created, especially when I travel. I lived in Fiji, Morocco, and England and have visited many European countries. A word that keeps coming back to me is "bloom where you are planted." God has planted me here and I am happy to use my gifts and talents to serve Powell River.

Fine Arts / Student Support

I was born and raised in Switzerland. Just before my husband and I immigrated to Canada, I finished my 5-year art degree as a teacher in 1993. I always loved to be creative, paint wildlife, portraits, and scenery as well as sculpting. For 18 years, my family of eight lived in Chetwynd, BC, where I started my art teaching in a small Christian School in 2009. Three years later, we moved to Powell River. Having my kids attend PRCS helped me to get to know the school and after 1 1/2 years of being a TA, I was asked to teach art to the higher grades. Currently, I teach art to grades 1-3 and do learning assistance with various students. I love to get to know all the kids and hopefully awaken a love for art and learning in them.

This school has such a heart for God and family, and I feel so blessed to be a part of this community. I have always loved children, and being able to work with and support them is such a privilege. Outside of working at the school, I enjoy music, art, photography, and enjoying the beautiful ocean and scenery Powell River has to offer. I look forward to spending many more years here!
