PRCS is committed to impacting our community. We as Community servers desire to help out those in need - in our school, in our Powell River community, or beyond. As such, we partake in a number of service activities throughout the school year.
Within our school - Warm Fuzzies
Timely coinciding with the theme of love in February, students are anonymously partnered with another person within our school community; this cross-grade activity allows for students to uplift one another with an encouraging note every week of the month. Our teachers and principal are included in this Community-building activity as well!
Within Powell River - Visiting Seniors & Helping Others
Throughout our school year, our classes visit our local resident care homes for games and reading. In December, our elementary classes partake in singing Christmas carols and share in fellowship with our elderly residents in our community.
Every month, our grade 8/9 class helps to prepare and serve food alongside the Salvation Army staff to those in need within our community. In December, the class also helps to prepare the Salvation Army food hampers.
As a part of Bible class, our grades 6-9 prayerfully write encouragement cards to hand out to residents in our neighbourhood. We have heard encouraging testimonies of how these cards have helped to provide timely answers to personal prayer.
Beyond our city - Terry Fox Run & Mexico Missions
As a school, we learn about the life of Terry Fox and partake in running courses around our neighbourhood - one for the lower grades and another for the upper grades. Students donate “Toonies for Terry” to help support cancer research.
In collaboration with our local Salvation Army chapter, our grade 9’s partake in a grand endeavor: to fundraise for transportation, accommodation and board for a missions trip to Mexico. Led by teacher representatives and Salvation Army captain, this end of the year activity offers our students a unique opportunity to minister to the needs of those who are most impoverished and vulnerable.
Our intent is that these endeavors would not simply be fleeting acts of kindness but ultimately would help in providing a foretaste of the Kingdom of God.
